No doesn’t mean convince me!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and during this month we have been extremely busy raising awareness about sexual assault and consent.
Two of the major awareness campaigns that take place during April are Denim Days and What Were You Wearing displays.
Throughout April Tyson fresh meats and local libraries helped Bright Horizons bring awareness to the fact that it doesn’t matter what a victim is wearing, a rapist will rape regardless of how the victim is dressed. Many of the survivors who have received supports through Bright Horizons told their stories to help spread the word that a victim is never “asking for it”, no matter what!

Chaplin Randy has always been a great help and has also been very supportive with Bright Horizons.
Upon seeing the display one 70-year-old survivor recounted when she was assaulted in a bar 50+ years ago. The event was so traumatic for her she never returned to any bar, ever.
Another survivor committed that even though the display is sad, and difficult to look at, she felt it was very powerful and was hopeful that it would help other survivors realize that it was never their fault.
The trauma from sexual assault is extreme and the effects can last a long time, but there is hope. Bright Horizons offers support to all victims and survivors of sexual assault and harassment, it doesn’t matter when the assault happened, we can help!
April 28th was Denim Day and all the staff at Bright Horizons donned their jeans in support of this movement.
What on earth do jeans have to do with sexual assault?
The campaign was born in the 1990s after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
Today Denim Day is observed worldwide. Many businesses in our service area also supported this movement by allowing their employees to donate to Bright Horizons and wear jeans to work all month long.
