Monday night English Support Group talked about Trauma is not our fault but healing is our responsibility. No matter what has happened in our lives we all will be faced or have faced some form of trauma. Facing trauma can be difficult and we all go about how we handle it in different ways. One of the ways we talked about in group was listening to music. Many people will use music as an outlet for what they are feeling.

Without any information as to what we would be talking about, we asked the group to let us know their favorite songs. The reasoning behind this is to learn more about each other within group and how music affects each person.

One of the statements that stood out in group is: “when we heal, we step into the people we have always wanted to be. We are not only able to metabolize the pain, we are able to affect real change in our lives, in our families and in our communities. We are able to pursue our dreams more freely. We are able to handle whatever life throws at us, because we are self-efficient and assured. We are more willing to dare, risk, and dream of broader horizons, ones we never thought we’d reach.”

What we have all come to realize is that healing is a long process and will not happen overnight, and that we have all our own way of handling trauma. There is no wrong way or right way to deal with trauma but what we do know is that it is not our fault, but we can do what we can to make our life easier and be able to heal from the trauma that we have been through.
