TEAMMATES MENTORING PROGRAM ….One Hour A Week….Time Enough

The mission of TeamMates Mentoring Program is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential. Nearly 5,000 youth are being mentored by a caring adult mentor. Founded by Dr. Tom and Nancy Osborne nearly twenty years ago, TeamMates Mentoring Program provides support and encouragement to youth with the goal of seeing them pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, community members in 120 communities throughout Nebraska and Iowa meet with youth one hour per week within their local school. These caring adult mentors serve as positive role models who give youth a sense of hope, purpose and vision.

It costs $460 to maintain a mentor/mentee match for one year, well below the national average of $1,000. The TeamMates cost per match provides comprehensive screening, training, liability coverage and staff support for every mentor and mentee.   Through the generous support of individuals, businesses and foundations, we will reach our goal of mentoring 15,000 youth by 2015 and become the leading school-based mentoring agency in the country.

The Holt County TeamMates Mentoring program is hosting their First Annual TeamMates Gala on August 26th, 2012. The Event will include dinner, entertainment by local celebrities, a silent auction and a TeamMates heart felt speech from our key note speaker, Matt Davison.

Who could forget Matt Davison’s remarkable catch against Missouri in 1997 that kept the Huskers undefeated for the season?!  After Matt’s football career ended he didn’t fade off.  He joined the broadcast crew as a color analyst for football and basketball coverage, gaining notoriety in 2007 for not

sugar-coating Nebraska’s struggles that season.

More importantly, Davison created “Creating Captains“, a foundation to teach youngsters in Nebraska about “Character, Courage, Leadership, and Respect” using sports as a foundation. He does about a dozen camps each summer and speaks at schools throughout the school year. The revenue generated by the camps goes into the camps and also into a companion program with the Food Bank to help ensure that kids don’t go hungry. Matt is also a big supporter of Coach Osborne’s mentoring program and speaks at many TeamMates fundraisers.
