On June 29th the Bright Horizons staff attended a retreat at the new restaurant in Norfolk, Barnstormers.

The day was filled with team building activities, speakers, and strategic planning.  Veta Hungerford from the North Central District Health Department in O’Neill came to teach the staff about the importance of working together.  All staff members completed the Gallup Strengths Finders book which is a tool to determine everyone’s top five strengths. Learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses is very useful and important when building teamwork.

We also spent much of the time creating a strategic plan for the upcoming year.  After much discussion and brainstorming, five main goals were established along with several action steps to accomplish these goals.  Last years’ goals were also reviewed in order to celebrate those that were accomplished and address those that will continue into this years’ strategic plan.  Jamie and Jen also introduced the staff to “talking circles” which is a great way to facilitate discussion about important topics and issues in the organization.

The day concluded with “Minute to Win It” activities put on by Linda.  Everyone was able to show their awesome skills and competitiveness while participating in these games.  I think the whole staff enjoyed the day full of learning, planning, great food, fun, and of course a lot of laughs!
