A couple weeks ago I attended the Region VII Prevention Conference in Kansas City, MO called “Preventing Sexual & Intimate Partner Violence Before it Begins”. From the beginning I was excited to go to this conference because I knew the main point of it was PREVENTION. I work a lot with the young teens of our community as I am one of the adult sponsors of our BRAVO group. Any new information we can get is vital to our group as we strive to be the best we can in our effort to raise awareness of dating violence and bullying.
I met a lot of great people at this conference and heard many inspiring stories of what others are doing in their communities in their prevention efforts. I came back home feeling refreshed and psyched with new ideas to try within our own agency. Whether it be new ways to engage men in our communities or through harnessing the power of media, prevention is key. Now that I have a few more “tools” to add to our “prevention tool bag”, I’m excited to try them out!
